About
“Sometimes, I like to paint, would you like to paint with me?”
It’s funny how seemingly small moments can transform a life. My art journey began one evening during graduate school, in late 2019 with that very question by a good friend and colleague.
I’ve always loved making, it’s what had drawn me to organic chemistry in the first place; primal creation by manipulating and transforming matter itself, but until that evening, I hadn’t really thought much about art. That night, however, something awoke in me and I fell in love with a new form of creative expression. Little did I know just how important this new passion would become for me, while finishing my PhD during Covid.
Witnessing the global tragedy over the past few years, combined with my own struggle of completing a doctoral program, I found abstract art as a way to constructively combat these traumas and cope with the maelstrom of emotions experienced watching the world fall apart. Through this medium, I was able to transform the chaos and disorder within me into things of beauty. I was able to heal through the catharsis of throwing paint and the joy of creating – leading me to explore my abstract expression on a larger and larger scale. I have been fascinated exploring abstract expressionism, the relationship between temporal and spatial art forms, and the zen practice of enso.
As we emerged from isolation, I found that making art was not just fulfilling as an individual but also catalyzed the formation of deeper connections within my friendships and community. By working together on art we create something greater than the sum of its parts, and something impossible to make by any one person alone. Through the process of creating together, we can nourish the constructive energy that is needed to bring about meaningful change in our communities and society at large.
I’m only at the beginning of this amazing journey. I hope my creations and exploration bring as much joy and wonder to the world, as the act of making them does for me.
If you ever want to create together, don’t hesitate to reach out.
